Fuel Filter Light

I have a 1993 F-250 w/ 7.3L International. My fuel filter light came on after i washed my engine of grease and dirt today and then my FF light came on. im putting a new filter in tonight but i wanted to know if anything electrical could of happened. I've put the truck onto both tanks and the light is still on so i know my pumps are ok. Any ideas

Black electrical connector on top of fuel filter housing... get water in there and the fuel filter light comes on every time. I have never seen mine come on other then when it got wet lol

mines come on twice now.i drained the filter each time to let the water out and all is good.thats the water separators job.
after washing it though yeah, likely just what warozz says is the ticket.just a wet water in fuel sending line.
still....did you know my hanynes diesel book says you should drain the water every 250 miles...though i think only when the light comes on is it necessary.but fyi, about every fillup you should drain it according to that.

oops my bad.i just checked the book to make sure. it says:
every 5k miles or 6 months whichever comes first.

the 250 miles is oil and coolant levels.

so,mine needed to be drained inside 6 months and inside every 5k so far.there was definitely water in there on the bottom.i haven't put on 10k miles yet......wont be much longer, she just rolled over to 57k today i noticed (i started at 48.7k)
but every 250 was way off lol sorry.it's the next "every xx" line down in the book.
