feul filter light truck shut down

What did the filter look like when you pulled it? Did it have a greasy waxy look to it (gelled fuel)? The fuel filter light is just a pressure switch. It senses a change in pressure due to a restriction in the fuel system (clogged filter usually but could also be gelled fuel, or a plugged screen in the tank).
Have you tried switching tanks?

How cold it has to be before the fuel will gel depends on the fuel. If you put some 911 in it and can get it to start, you should be ok. The purity of the purity of the fuel and whether it has anti gel additives in if from the refinery (winter blend or summer blend) all affect how cold it has to be before the fuel starts to congeal.
Oh, and resist the urge to try using ether (starting fluid) on this truck. With our Glow Plug systems, it is possible to seriously screw up your engine using ether.

Just pour some fuel into the bowl and see if the truck will start.
I am wondering why your fuel filter light came on if the fuel pump failed. The fuel filter light reads pressure in the fuel system, and unless just one stage of the pump failed (it has two stages) I am not sure why it would have triggered the light.
