Ok almost all diesels I've seen while driving spew some black smoke when the pedal is leaned on.
I just picked up a 06 xlt 6.0 crew cab about 4 weeks ago. It spent 10 days in the shop after having it for 2 days because I was mowing and hit large rock and it put a baseball size dent in the bed.
Ok back to my question, I've leaned on the pedal twice out on the freeway and it doesn't from what I can see, it doesn't spew black smoke. I've even had the wife look and not from what we can see. Is this normal? It's my first diesel and as luck would have it I missed a diesel class at our local dealer because of the flu.
I'm just scratching the service of knowing this truck and diesels. It's foreign right now but I'm learning.
Yes its normal. The programming on the 6.0L, along with the VGT turbo, doesn't allow excess fuel at low boost levels. A custom tune can smoke like crazy because they don't limit fuel with boost.

Awesome guys, I've expereienced many late nights because I get on here and start reading posts and the next thing I know it's midnight.
Thank you for the links amdriven, my little head is still trying to soak all that in. But I am learning. I was tempted to trade it in on a 2010 but I think I'm keeping it. It runs like a charm and is paid for so I think we're going to keep it. Thank you to everyone, best helpful web forum out there on the net.
Yeah I think I'm going to keep it. I'd love a 2011 but I think I will wait till second generation of them. I really liked the F350 they had here showing it off at the taste of Omaha.
You could hardly tell it was diesel it was so quite. But at almost $60,000 the wife kind of balked at that idea.
Thanks guys for all the info. This place is awesome.
Funny I have driven 2 of them and the one thing I didnt like was it does not sound like a diesel. I love that sound and I love that smell. weird I know
Don't get me wrong I like the sound of a diesel but sometimes it can be louder than I want. But I do love the smell and rumble. But the one I heard had just enough of a rumble you could tell it was a diesel but quieter than a normal diesel.
But I only spent a couple minutes listening to it and I was up by the drivers door.
