So i was backing my truck up in the yard last night, gave her a little throttle, then the loudest backfire i have heard in awhile. It sounded like all 8 backfired or it jumped time or something. Well i tried to restart and the battery was about dead. I left it there for the night. I tried to start it today, jumped it off another truck, the battery was completely dead. I got her spinning enough that it should start, but it wouldnt fire. Seems to me that something in the ingition system isnt working. So im thinking maybe something shorted out in the ingnition, drained the battery. Could this happen? Anyone have any ideas what could have happened? I have the battery on charge and hopefully tomorrow can figure out whats wrong.
I would suspect the timing chain. Does it seem to spin faster than it used to? pull dist cap off and see if your rotor bug is turning . If its still turning its likley an electrical problem, ingnition module maybe???
Does this have points or electronic ignition? If it's electronic, I'd put a test light between the negative battery terminal and the negative battery cable to look for current draw, and see if connecting or disconnecting the ignition module makes a difference in light intensity.
