Charging Problems

However, is an '85 a G1 or G2 alternator? The latter had connector problems.
Unfortunately, I have no idea whether it's 1G or 2G, or how to tell the difference.
On the upside, I did find my handy dandy multimeter. So, armed with that and my FSM, I'm going at the charging system head on tomorrow evening. I just hope I can make it back and forth to work between now and then. Haha

Use your multi-meter and check that you have voltage getting from the F (field) wire to the alternator with the key in the 'run' position.

Could be the ignition switch or an open circuit anywhere between the switch and the alternator
It appears that "hot in run" going through the charge lamp is fused.

But since he said he had changed the alternator first, and then changed the regulator, I assumed he has a 1G.
I would definitely check for power into and out of the regulator with the key on.
And check for possible resistance or open in the alternator's ground wire.
If the fusible link is burnt it should be apparent.
