I'm in the market for a new truck. I currently own an 05 Excursion with a 6.0 diesel. I'm going to be purchasing either an F-250 or Ram 2500 in its place. I like what Ford has done with the new trucks, I've been a loyal Ford customer for many years. Like many here, I've had many problems with the 6.0, but I'm trying not to let that influence my loyalty, and I really hope Ford finally "got it right" with the new diesel.
I was surprised to find out today from the dealer that the new drive train only comes with a 5/60 warranty, not 5/100. I guess I'm surprised as Ford doesn't have the best reputation for diesels, and the competition is still offering 5/100. Any thoughts/opinions is this is the right move? This doesn't exactly build confidence with the new product for someone who has previous experience with the 6.0. Another surprising fact....dealer is asking $3800 for the 100K maintenance plan (not extended warranty). My neighbor paid $3K for the same maintenance plan for a 2010 F250 diesel, and I paid $1250 for a 60K maintenance plan for the 6.0. Is Ford trying to recoup costs and shelter from all of the diesel lawsuits over the years?
its funny i look at makers that offer longer warrenty coverage as a sign that they are struglin and are trying anything they can to get people to buy their vehicles..
look at Hyundia they offer teh longest warrenty coverage in the business and yet people still think of them as "disposable" cars..
i have total faith in Fords ability to build a truck that basicly lasts forever,so the length of the warrenty coverage is not something that sways me one way or another..
considering my truck as 340,000 kms on it, and still remains in mint shape and works flawlesly.
i'd buy another in without even looking at the other brands.. there is only one option FORD Super Duty...
For the record, I hope I'm not coming across as a naysayer :-) I just hope Ford finally has it right with this engine after being burned with the 6.0. I know the 6.7 hasn't been out for very long, and probably not long enough to be tested by the general public, but would be great to hear how it's doing so far.
The F-250 is top of my list at the moment. Can any other 2011 diesel owners share their experiences so far?
You might read up in the 6.7L PSD forum and maybe ask specific questions, but it seems for the most part that the 6.7L appears to be a good engine. Even this early, the 6.0L PSD was showing it's problems and the 6.4L had a minor issue with the "flame throwing" regen cycle.
Considering that alot of the PSD engines had issue's with rusting out oil Pan's,,,a Composit oil Pan will solve that Problem,,,,as long as other issue's are not created.
powertrain is 5/60 but the motor is 100K. You can buy a maintance plan or extended warranty elsewhere for that money.
Correct sir. I would also add that this may fall by the wayside if the engine proves to be as good as Ford says it will be, the 100K mile engine warranty may get reduced to a 60K mile warranty like the rest.
Get it now while you have a great warranty opportunity.

I currently own 2 6.0s (Both bought new) and both have been great engines. one has never has an Issue of any kind and the other one Ford fixed the minor issues with with it. Both are stone cold stock. The 6.7 looks to be an even greater engine. although so far they don't look like they get better fuel mileage then the 6.0s. Before I trade-in 2 or 3 paid off trucks I will be getting one that gets at least 20 MPG!
Your 6.7 will have a 5yr/100k mile warranty on the engine only. Just like all previous Powerstrokes. It is a common mistake to think it is a powertrain warranty. It never was.
I don't see this changing, considering that the Cummins and Duramax all carry the same engine warranty.
The powertrain is 5/60, and has been since mid MY 2006. My own '06 only got a 3/36 powertrain warranty, because it was in-service early '06 before they increased the term. So I missed out, but didn't have any issues anyway. I don't see them reducing this. It would only hurt marketing to do that.
If you are in the market I think you should jump on that 6.7 with both feet. But suggest you spend a little extra on an ESP or at least DieselCare warranty since it is a new engine design.
All good feedback, thx. Sounds like I may have jumped to conclusions on the engine warranty as the dealer printout I was provided only referenced 5/60. I did take one for a spin, it really does drive well, and it's quick off the line, which is a welcomed improvement over my 6.0.
Can anyone recommend the best rear axle ratio for light towing (21ft wakeboard boat, future trailer, non 5th wheel), and light 4wd use (snow, little off road)
