Well its doing it quite often now. The idle is very jumpy, Up and down alot. Seems like it wants to idle right but it isnt getting enough air/fuel to do so!!
I guess I'm not the only person with a '87-'91 Ford experiencing the same problems. Mine won't run right until its totally warmed up, but it runs great the first few minutes after initial start up. So far I have....
Changed and gapped the spark plugs (Motorcraft)
Checked the distributor cap and rotor
Changed the IAC valve
Changed the temp sensor
Changed the fuel pressure regulator
And recently the high pressure fuel pump has been acting up, and has not been priming the system sometimes when the key is turned on, which causes a hard start. I then need to put my foot on the accelerator for it to start.
I did hook up my code reader and got about eight different codes. And you can have codes stored without the engine light coming on.
My next step is going to be checking and cleaning the EGR and throttle body.........which I am not sure what the process is yet.
well I fixed my prob. I unhooked the Vapor Canistor Purge Solenoid and ran the hose directly from the throttle body to the carbon canister and it seems to be running just fine now. Being that the purge solenoid runs around 50 dollars I will probably get a new one next week but since it runs great now I think I will keep it this way as long as it works. thanks to all those who assisted me with this problem. Ohh and also. I believe that my acceleration was boosted by this as it seems to have a little more kick.
