Hey im new here and I just bought this my truck about a month or so ago. Its a 90 F150 and it has a 5.8 that took the place of a 5.0 and its a 5 speed. It is EFI by the way.
I have been having a problem with it stalling while I am coming to a stop. Usually this happens when the motor is cold. But it happens when the motor is warmed up on occasion to. Also when I go to cold start it, it take a minute before it will idle right. I have to pump the gas or it will die. Any ideas?
I am trying to rebuild this truck to like new and if I can just figure out the engine I am good to go with the rest. The engine I believe was poorly switched out, but run great after when it doesnt stall.
Test your idle air control valve. I'm not too familiar with the 5.8, but yea test your idle air control valve (which goes by multiple names) and make sure it's good. Start there.
Ford Fuel Injection How To Run a Self-Test Here is a link on how to check for trouble codes. Also shows how to clean the IAC.
However you may have a bad Engine Coolant Temperature sensor. That may show up in the codes.
^^ All good suggestions. You may also want to check the fuel pressure regulator. It's a simple test- just remove the vacuum line- if you smell gas or see it dripping out of the line, it's bad.
I just replaed the IAC and leaned the throttle body, which was not very dirty compared to the old IAC, it seems to be idling better. Only time will to see if it stalls again or starts like it has been when cold.
Nope IAC change and full tune up didnt work. Will try fuel pressure regulator next. Hopefully that is it. I dont have an egr as it was blocked off a while back. Going to change pvc and fuel regulator this weekend.
My truck runs great other than the stopping. It starts fine and after initial morning start it wants to bog down and die but I just pump the gas once and it kicks back up to idle. When I come to a abrupt stop and press the clutch it wants to die sometimes. Also it seems like it does it when I am going down hill worse for some reason.. Could this be something? Also seems like it may be doing it on more abrupt stops.
I have an 89 f150 supercab with a 300 i6. Its my first ford and have only had it for 2 weeks. went playing in the creek, since then had problems like some of the above, changed the plugs wires and cap, also the coil. no help. Then I seen a vacuum line that got knocked off while driving over a bunch of rocks. I dont know what it is for but it is on the upper pass side of the fire wall. as soon as i hooked it up it ran great. Good luck
well I dont know what that is but I replace the plugs wires and coil, nothing changed, 20 seconds after i was done, I seen a vacuum line disconected on the upper pass side of the fire wall. a very tiny vacuum line. hooked it up and ran beautifully. lol. thank god. and thanks for your help
