ok I know this not a ranger such but i have 86 t bird 2.3 that misses pretty bad I have done all of the normal stuff plugs wire cap rotor and it havent gotten any better and i did check for vaccum leaks and found none.
Are you sure it doesn't have a vacuum leak. I have had the pvc valve have a vacuum leak i have had the intake around cylinder # 4 have a leak and the only way I found that last one was with ether. Have you done a compression check?
These can cause you to chase your tail. Where is the Mass air flow sensor located on the t-bird if it isn't on the throttle body. Is the hose from it to the TB in good shape. if it is cracked it will cause it to run really crappy.
or you can have a bad headgasket that is only broken from cylinder out (Not to a water jacket or oil galley), While uncommon I have seen and had to deal with this before.
