I have a 98 f150 with a 4.6 about a 1000 miles ago it started to miss I put new spart plugs in and the missing stoped but it is back again. Any one have any clue what it might be?
You might want to check for brossfire between plug wires, or a plug wire shorting to the block. You may have changed the way a wire was routed, and the spark is jumping to another cylinder when it shouldn't be. Try looking under the hood at night to see if there is any sparking. Or a spray bottle with water in it can help show the spark.
I'm having a similar problem but it showed a code only one time and when they read it at Autozone, it stated MISSFIRE CYL 4. Can someone tell me for certain which cyl. is cyl. 4? I've replaced all of the plugs so I'm guessing it's the coil or the injector...but could there be another likely cause? FYI - I had to replace the throttle air-bypass about 2 months ago and this issue started but I don't think it's related...but someone on here will probably know a lot better than me!!! Byt the way...how do you know which is cyl #4? Start on passenger side facing engine and count back???
Yes, #4 is the back cylinder, on the passenger side. Look for an anti-freeze leak in the line that goes over the top of that cylinder. I've seen the coil all corroded from a/f, and the hole down thru the valve cover full of a/f also. Likely that coil is defective, and all you need to do is replace it, and repair the a/f leak. Ford's fix for the leak, is to wrap the line with sealer, so that the a/f drips in a different spot.
