My 06 Has 65,000 on it, and tomorrow it's getting a trans fluid flush and change. I run Mobil 1 in the motor, and was considering having the mechanic put Mobil 1 ATF in it instead of the regular Mercon.
It's a 100 bucks for a standard flush and fluid change, and 130 for synthetic flush and change. Just wondering if going with the synthetic will make a noticable difference in performance. I also have an Edge with the shift firmness increased to 25% on every gear, if this makes a difference ? Thanks for the help in advance !

Don't know the answer, but would not suspect it would make a noticeable difference in performance, but perhaps in lifetime. Be interesting to see what folks say. Main reason for responding is a side topic -> I like your wheels! What are they and what size? Nice looking ride.
Valvoline Mercon V is a full synthetic ATF. I don't know if Motorcraft is though. In the long run it may be worth it though. I second the comment on your truck it looks great.
At what point does the different brands transmission fluid meeting the Mercon V specifications differ? Just a question. Oh and I am of the believe that Mercon V is the specification for full synthetic.
I welcome and need any corrections as I am about to flush my tranny this weekend.
FWIW - 200K miles on my 05 and have used regular(?) Merc V the entire time.
Motorcraft, Castrol and Advance Auto house brand.
I have never done a flush. About every 30K miles I will drop the pan, change the screen filter and then fill it back up (about 5 qts). Takes about an hour in the driveway.
Transmission still performs like new.
So for me, I see no benefit to paying premium price for anything much that is supposed to be "better" than what is required.
IMO, I will pay the extra because I have a major investment that needs to last as long as possible. In the case of motor oil, no one can tell me that dino oil is as good as full syn, and being that the syn has a longer change interval, the cost diff isn't that much. I'm a 3K oil change guy, and in almost 45 yrs of driving, have never had an engine that needed internal work. Whats a couple more oil changes in a yr in the scope of things? These days, if you have a choice between reg duty, and heavy duty, take the better of the two, as quality wise, it equals the reg duty parts of yesteryear. Like this example, I bought a life time warranty alternator that was $4 more than a 1 yr warranty. to me this is a no brainer, unless you are going to sell the car tomorrow.
It's funny, I took delivery of my 2010 Focus last week. While I was choking through the part where the person is trying to upsell warranties, fabric and paint protection and the benefits of using the dealership service department for ALL services including oil changes, she sat right there with a straight face and told me that I needed an oil change every 3K miles and my transmission should be flushed every 60K.
I sat there and said nothing until she was finished. I then opened the new car maintenance guide that comes with the car and showed her that she is not only stupid but a thief too. Before I would allow her to leave the room, I mentioned that fear mongering may work on the elderly and the naive and that her attempts to secure business for her employer will eventually haunt her.
BTW, Ford Motor Company recommends a 7500 mile oil / filter change and a 100K mile transmission flush as it came with the new LV fluid.
Ford is working diligently to lower the cost of ownership and their dealer network is working against them and contradicting them all the way.
