spin it counter clock wise till it drops down square then tighten it..
This technique did not work well for me in this application. I ended up putting paint marks at the start of the threads of each piece so I could keep track of where the lead thread was.
What I found to be most important was to measure up from the top surface of the gauge/inlet mounting plate to the clamp surface of the threaded ring. If it was the same all the way around, the threads were engaged properly.
