I'd pressurize the system via a jumper at the EEC test port, so you don't have to have it running, sit back drink a beer and wait and watch.
Its should become apparent fairly quick where the leak is, dripping directly on the floor, or puddling up on the motor, at least until the puddle overflows to the floor anyway.
Hard part sometimes yea finding it, easy part should be correcting it once you know what and where the problem is!
ok, so we didnt end up checking anything yesterday.....too damn hot and they had all three bays filled up......
stopped by just a few ago and my buddy jumps in the passenger seat and immediately says thats not gas.....thats refrigerant..... ok, these guys aren't AC techs by trade, so if he is right, where would it be leaking from to enter the cab like that ?
it never did smell like raw gas......always smelled more like old going bad gas....kinda that turpentine smell.....sound right to you guys ?
i topped it off with a can of juice with dye in it, but its too bright to see anything right now....bays still filled up.....any ideas where to start looking ?????
Did you check it with a refrigerant leak detector? Refrigerant is odorless and what you could be smelling is the PAG oil. A leak inside the cab would indicate the evaporator and if you have a UV light, you can't see it from the outside. You can, however, take the blower motor out to get a look at it. The condensate drain plug should weep your oil and dye out if that is the location of your leak. Also, if you have a good leak detector, check all the mechanical fittings.
turpentine smell is kinda what I had and it was a bad exhaust gasket... Leaked exhaust fumes into the engine bay which found their way to the cab... it was easy enough to figure out... wait till engine and exhaust are cool then start the truck and pour water around the exhaust fittings... if you see a bubbling you know you have a exhaust leak.
Have fun fixing that! they are a pain in the butt to replace!
Check all your exhaust for visable leaks and You can also do a quick check by plugging the tail pipe breifly (don't burn yourself) and that should push exhaust out the leak and make it easier to spot... 2 person job really so you do plug it to long...
If not check your other fuel items like fuel filter and fuel rails. RJM has a injector rebuild kit with all new o-rings and filter baskets if that is your problem...

Those "Bandaids" may be coming back to haunt you on your a/c.
Mixing refigerants (r12 & r134) and oils that are not compatible along with sealers are sure to lead to an early system failure. I imagine you will need to take your system down and find you leak(s), make a proper repair, and do it right. A/C repair is not rocket science but if it is done properly the first time it will repay you with many years of service.

hahahaahaa.....damn.....can i get some ketchup to eat those words with
i think your right....oohh well, i was planning on replacing the compressor anyway due simply to age, looks like its time to bite the bullet and do it right.
i think my evaporator core is shot......drove around for 50 miles this evening with just the vent setting and NO SMELL!.....not even a hint! thunder storm came through earlier....temps dropped about 30 degrees so i took advantage of it....windows up/windows down/vent on high/floor/etc..... and no "gas" smell at all.....
