I am looking for a fiberglass front bumper for my 77 f150 that I drag race. I have searched many hours and can not find a fiberglass bumper. Any ideas? Thanks
Good advice Tim.
Making a fiberglass bumper is easy as pie! Easy as long as you have a good straight steel one to use as a model. Simply lay some glass over it, and you have a perfect mold. Then treat the inside of the new mold with some release agent, and lay new glass in it. Wait for it to set up, and vioala, a totally custom fiberglass bumper! Clean the edges up with a 3" wheel, and it will be the exact same size as the original bumper. The mold will be good to go for another one if you used enough stuff to keep the new bumper from sticking to the mold. Make as many as you want, just make sure you use some good fasteners that spread the load, because you will develop some cracks. Some guys even apply extra glass around the bolt hole areas on the inside of the bumper. Guarantee you will mess a few up, but it will be fun, and eventually you will make one that you are happy with.
Once you get the hang of it, you can use your new talent to make all sorts of stuff.
