Hmm. I have nothing against Dodge, except their paint quality, but that surprises me to hear this on the Ford Truck site. Can you enlighten me ?

Cummins has a pretty good track record. They are well respected by most.

Looks like it's a good thing to talk to all the other people.
My question was... What would be the best used F250/F350 to try to get? The answer that best suits me... F250 Super Duty Super Cab Short Bed 4x4, with a PSD or a V10, 2005 or newer, or... A Dodge Cummins ? Am I in the right place to ask, what would be the best used Dodge Cummins 4x4 to look for ?

You're going to get a lot of Ford kicks *ss comments on a Ford forum, but Cummins seems to be a good diesel in a crappy truck (I don't like several things about the Dodge trucks I've ridden in).

You might start another thread about which truck you should get, but I think you'll even get responses like, "buy a used Ford truck and put a Cummins in it".

It's hard to go wrong with a "F250 Super Duty Super Cab Short Bed 4x4, with a PSD or a V10, 2005 or newer".

Yes, just stiring the pot a bit.
I now have a 2009 F150 4wd.
My 2004 Dodge was 2wd and I threw in the towel after 5 winters.
Loved that truck, except when it snowed.
Very happy with my Ford.

Look for a late 2003 to 2008? 5.9 Commonb Rail diesel.
Fairly good on fuel and pretty reliable if you don't monkey with them.

Thanks for the reply, a little blast from the past, but that's good.
You are saying a Cummin's, with a common rail ? What is this ?
Would all Cumin's, 2003, to 2008, have the common rail ?
Were improvements made in 2003, making them more desirable than the earlier trucks ?

Much quieter, significantly more powerfull (stock),48RE trans more robust than earlier 47RE trans.
I believe starting in late 08 they went to the 6.7 emission diesel.
Lots of power and a 6 speed auto(nice)
Not as good on fuel and quite complex.
I liked that diesel, but you really have to be able to make a buisness case for them. Would I like the new Ford 350...yes, but for my use I could never justify it...nice truck though.

The Cummins 6.7 came out in 07. I had one, ran great, rode nice, handled great. Interior was garbage, quality just isnt as nice as a Ford on the rest of the truck.

I really liked how the newer Cummins has almost no turbo lag, even with a auto. Slightly better on fuel than my current 6.0. Slightly cheaper insurance.

As for the statements where there is no difference in suspension between a 250 and 350?
350s have heavier rear springs. 250 or 350 you can get something like a camper package for a little extra.
You can get a Snow Plow Package or a Heavy Duty Service Package on the front springs.
A newer 05 + 350 will also have a firmer ride than a 250 due to the stiffer rear springs
