I have a '93 F-150 5.0 w/ E4OD. I don't want to start a speed density vs. mass air debate because a conversion is out of the questoin right now. I would just like to hear from those of you who have done mods to a SD engine. I have been told that intake and exhaust mods will create an over-lean condition. Is this true? I would hate to spend a bunch of money on mods just to lower my performance & possibly damage my engine. I am considering:[*]Shorty headers[*]Cat-back exhaust[*]K&N filter[*]Throttle body spacer[*]Underdrive pulleys
Has anyone done these mods & if so, how do you feel about them? Did they help significantly, or would I be wasting time and money? Will they cause any drivability problems? Also, has anyone used the Throttle Response Calibrator by Casper's Electronics? What are your thoughts on this? Any other suggestions are welcome. Please excuse the long thread, but I've been trying to get answers to these questions for awhile & it's nice to find a place where I can talk to peers & not someone who's trying to sell me something. Any advice or input is greatly appreciated.
I had all of those mods except the throttle body spacer on my 88 F150 5.0 It ran great, and had noticbly better power. With those mods you realy aren't changing your vacum very much so the speed density works just fine.
Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm glad to hear I can do some mods without causing other problems. Now if I can just come up with the money to pay for them.
