A quick thanks to everyone who helped me diagnose the ignition problems with my truck. Two simple things fixed the problem. Had to replace the distributor cap and rotor and reset the computer. Now she runs like a champ... Now for a simple question - the cable/wire? some part of my spedometer makes an unruly whirring sound when I go faster than about 25mph. Anyone have an easy fix for this problem, aside from the obvious... disconnect it... It became painfully obvious to me while replacing the distributor cap the truck sat for a VERY long time without being driven. A bird had made itself a nest on the engine block and raised a family.. complete with egg shell pieces and all.
I had to pull the instrument cluster on my 87 and relube the speedometer and cable. It would only make the noise in winter. Never in warm weather. Glad you got your troubles cured.

How hard is it to take apart the dash AND re-assemble it...? - What did you use for lube? - WD-40 or White Grease (ultra light weight)... and Thanks- I'm glad the problem with it not starting was a simple one... whew!!.
I used white grease on the speedometer and WD40 down the cable. Fixed mine right up. As far as the dash, its not that hard. The trim around my wiper and headlight switch just pops off. Then there are 2 torx screws at the top of the dash trim, and 2 at the bottom. Remove that and the instrument cluster comes out in one piece when you remove the screws from it(I think there's 4). Unplug your electrical connectors from the back of the inst. panel and unhook speedo cable and you're in. Just keep your inst. panel upright or you could lose the anti-vibration fluid from the gauges.
