Question Patriot

What's the deal with these missles. Would like to hear it from the people that are paying for them. Do you believe or not the reports of 100% failure rate. Not sure whether I should beleive what I hear or not. Somebody could be lying. Enlighten me. I'm sure the american admin would not knowingly lie to the people that trust them, would they? Maybe the american media is'nt even reporting these supposed facts. Please don't be overly sensitive about this, just some open discusion.

Weren't they 100% effective in 1991 ?

That's what shot down the scuds.....was it not?

Should listen to the fifth estate report and hear the facts presented by some very reputable people including u.s senators and congressmen.
I'm refering to the '91 media reports and swartzkofs as well. Even the pres bush sr. didn't know the true facts and when he did get them he continued with the denial and helped to perpetrate the untruths. No bullet going 5000 kliks an hour can hit a bullet going 5000 kliks an hour. The hits were on pieces that the scuds were shedding, not on the warheads which hit the targeted cities.

The patriots had about a 75% failure rate, but a 100% miss rate. The thing that looked good was the fact that the scuds had about a 90% failure rate. They just broke up in flight. The hits that were attributed to the patriots were actually when the pat's got close to the scuds and the scuds chose that moment to fail. IMO, you'd have a better chance of blowing a scud out of the sky with a trusty old 12guage shotgun, and birdshot.

You CAN'T believe a 100% failure rate after seeing them shoot down scud missiles with your own eyes on CNN during the last conflict with Iraq. Well at least I can't. They were new and buggy back then and needed work but we have improved them to the point that other countries want them bigtime.

Turkey has been begging for them, Israel has them and many countries that surround the madman want them.

They are a 100% defensive weapon, maybe that irks some people. Go figure.

Israel has developed it's own missle on missle defense called the Arrow because of their direct experiance with the Patriot. True the Patriot was developed as a anti aircraft defence system and this is probably one factor contributung to the lack of success as a missle defense system. It's a good thing to try but the truth is not to be denied. Does the Military ever lie to make itself look better and I'm not refering to the people that do the actual fighting but the Chickenhawks that direct the campaign. Spin doctoring has it's place but we must read between the lines to find the truth at times. I do not take anything away from the troops as they are the true HEROS, but just call into question the Administration.

I too just saw the show by Fifth Estate on the Patriot missles. There has been footage of the Patriot hitting a Scud on CNN. The hit was reported as a hit by a reporter. A US missle expert said it wasnt a hit. The problem with the Scud he said is its re-entry. It becomes very unstable. Other footage showed a Scud flying back and forth like a kite in the wind as it came close to its target. Its one thing to try and hit a missle with a missle as posted above but its near impossible for a Patriot to follow the crazy flight path of a Scud. Also to complicate the possibility of a strike by a Patriot is the breakup of the Scud as it approaches its target. As the Scud violently shoots from side to side it starts to break apart. The fins and various pieces fall off. The Patriot thinks this is the missle and goes for the part. The there is speed to think about. The Scud travels much slower than the Patriot!! The CNN footage shows the Patriot hitting a peice of the scud that fell off. The war head continued on to its target.

While I can't attest to the Patriot's reliability, I do know it has a "proximity fuse." It doesn’t necessarily have to hit the scud, it just needs to get close and the proximity fuse will detonate the warhead in the Patriot. Hopefully the ensuing explosion will be close enough to take the scud out.

The Model T pickup had to be started with a hand crank. I hope you guys don't start quoting customer complaints about that. The reports being sited are from 1991 and the reports from a decade later are not being used. Hmmmm slanted?

PS The hand crank kept women off the road You Grandfather wasn't as stupid as you first thought.

To bad he didn't carry a condom, then women wouldn't have to put up with this kind of crap.

OOOOOOw, struck a nerve did I? I have to listen to the woman that backed over her husband THREE times tell the court that she really loved him but their marriage had a few BUMPS in the road. hehehe

Do you think we would hear any jokes if Mr. Bobbet would have mutilated his wifes groin with a knife?

Lighten up. It's already one way enough.

This isn't sexist?

If women don't find you handsome they should at least find you handy.

Ditto on the nerve thing man. Got to test the waters every so often. Sarcastic humor is needed on some occasions. The driver thing is pretty much a new topic. Drive in traffic for work in a truck 4 days a week and the driving challenged are something I see a lot of. Not many women race car drivers.

Was it Cadillac that invented the electric starter because his friend killed himself starting his car?
