Question Human Shields

I've been thinking about that girl who got run over by the Israeli bulldozer, and I can't help but think "why don't you just mind your own damn business?" I can't stand these people who think "hey, I'm going to put myself in harm's way, and I will avert disaster!"

YOU ARE PLAYING A GAME OF CHICKEN WITH PEOPLE WHO HAVE SPENT THEIR WHOLE LIVES KILLING. THEY DON'T CARE. No Palestinian refugee gives a damn whether or not I throw myself in front a bulldozer, and even if they did, it's not going to make a difference. Why can't people just mind their own business? It's not that I don't sympathize with the Israeli/Palestinian situation, but it's not my business. There is no possible way that some college student from the US can stop a religous war that has been going on for 1,000 years.

I'm sorry if I'm ranting, but this crap really sets me off.

On top of that, now we're going to have to hear about this hippie for the next 10 years. By this time next year, we'll all know the story of her pathetic, meaningless life, and we won't care any more than we do now.

I feel bad for her family - I'd be embarassed if I raised a kid who was that stupid.

I'm sorry if I'm being overly insensitive; I normally enjoy seeing dumb people getting hurt while doing dumb things, but this defies all logic.

over and out.

That goes right along with what I said before about people who think they can make a difference by protesting when they don't have any real knowledge of the situation. If you think for a second that your life means anything to any Palestinian rebel, you're trippin'. But they think that they know enough to speak to the subject, so they buy a plane ticket with daddy's credit card, head over to a war zone, and try to stop it. I don't care if 10,000 hippy college kids went there, it wouldn't stop anything, they wouldn't be teaching anybody anything new, and they certainly wouldn't be doing anybody over there the favors they think they are doing.
These little spoon-fed Audi driving dreadlock wearing patchouli drenched trustafarians should quit wasting their time on getting in the way and holding up signs, and muster up the courage to do something to promote real change. And they don't have to join the military, either. They could join the Peace Corps and accomplish astronomically more than they have in an entire lifetime of protesting, and after they were finished helping out, they would have the experience to actually speak with some authority about the subject. But I guess that's not the easy way out, so they'll stick with daddy's money and pretend to make a difference.

Does this look like your average American girl? This is the one in the bulldozer stand off. I had the impression that it was an American that just went over there. From the picture I assume she had family there, or something.

I support the President and the troops. I am in favor of ousting the entire political regime in power in Bahagadad today.
That being said I would only add this regarding the young woman.
She is an american citizen, and she gave her life for what she believed to be an important cause. It is not mine or anyone elses place to judge the worthiness for her. at least she demonstrated the courage of her convictions. This in itself is more than most people will ever do for theirs. As a father and a grandfather I try to show my pride whenever they demonstrate courage in their beliefs. This was nothing other than a tragic accident. It was never anyones intent to to die, or kill in this matter.

She looks kinda like my little sister, wearing a scarf and with a tan...
Having the courage of your convictions it certainly admirable, but when you lack the sense to implement it effectively, it loses it's wonder.
My whole point is, protest without action is a waste of time. And by action I mean doing something that makes a difference, beyond holding up a sign and trying to convince people your views are right because there's lots of you and you can chant clever epithets at a high volume.
If they really wanted to make change, they should be doing something besides getting in the way. Being a roadblock does nothing, building a road to a better way does wonders.

does anyone know if she was a jew or christian, or muslim?

i agree that no life is meaningless, but its just plain wrong for her to throw her life away like that. thats suicide period. theres a line between losing your life to save or benifit anothers but to lay in front a bulldozer knowing that your not going to change anything! thats just stupid. i will jump in front off a bullet for a complete stranger, or risk my life in any way to help anothers, including serving in the army. im in no way scared to die, because i know if i do so for a good cause i will go to a good place. but i do respect myself and would never ever jump in front of heavy machinery to save a freakin house, i would to save a person, but not material items. thats like jumping in front of a car to save your dog and in the process killing yourself, its a waste and in my opinion its a sin. sacrificing your life for a little clay house or whatever they make them out of, how sickening. i understand she was doing it for the cause behind it but her actions were completely unneccesary. maybe she though allah was going to sweep down and kill the guy in the bulldozer or something.
no church here is praising her, they are praying that she doesnt burn in hell for suicide.
she is not a good role model for ANYBODY, i respect her actions in trying to promote peace but killing yourself in that way is just plain stupid. when i have a kid he sure is hell isnt going to lay in the middle of the school parking lot and get hit by the cafeteria ladies big van because he didnt like their food.

Take this for what you want,
I am a grandfather of two and father of two, and married to the same woman for 29 years 7 months and 9 days.
You have no idea what your children are going to do!

To the rest of you;
I agree with everything you've said here.
It is not my place or yours to judge the worthiness of her cause.

Anyone can die for their beliefs, the hard thing is to live for them!
