I recently did the CCV Mod on my 2000 7.3 and I noticed that it...well...stinks. Is this normal?
Thanks!
Scott
My 99 did the same thing so I put it back to stock temporarily. When I get time I'm going to route it through a catch can, and back to the stock location on the intake. There are several do-it-yourself guides formaking catch cans on here or you can just buy one from an online catalogue that carries race parts. Also know that the type of oil you run will make a huge difference in the stink. Rotella isn't as bad, chevron Delo stinks like crazy... and fresh oil is typically more stinky that oil that has been in the truck awhile.
what do you mean by stink? in the cab or outside of the truck. and what does it smell like, a diesel or something else?
The outside smells pretty bad...I'm sure its just the hot Rotella smell coming from the end of the hose from the CCV, but it smells pretty heavy. I don't think its putting out any more smoke than any of the videos I've seen with the mod, though. Another thing I noticed (usually at night, through other peoples headlights) is smoke coming from the exhaust, although I'm sure the programmer, etc. might be responsible for that. Other than that, the truck still starts up and drives great with 130,000 miles on it and nothing sounds out of the ordinary...well, except for the Wicked Wheel, Cold Air Intake and 6637 Mod....but that sounds awesome.
A young woman in the passenger seat of a mustang next to me at a stop light last week held her nose and said, "Your truck stinks bad!" as she was rolling up the window. I don't notice it much unless I'm parked or just putting around slow.
