methanol injection

does anyone know if it would be of any real gain to run methanol in an 6.9l n/a idi. and if so how would be the best to spray it i.e. one big nozzlelike a fogger or eight smaller ones into each intake runner. any ideas on how much h.p. you would gain. also does anyone know of anybody running methanol on their truck as to side affects, cost? thanks for any advice.

methanol is another type of fuel without a turbo i doubt you would see any real gains that are worth while.by the time you piece together a methanol injection kit you probably could have bought a turbo kit anyway.the best thing you can do is turbo it.a few members have toyed with different injection systems but no longer run them because of the low gains and repairs that resulted because of it

x2. without a turbo you aren't going to see any gains. its main purpose is to drop the temps of the air going into the engine. your turbo pushes hot air into your engine, thats why newer diesels all come with intercoolers. they help drop the temp of the air before it gets shoved into your intake. methanol/water injection sprays in as a mist and brings that charged air temp down.

yes i know ,have sprayed enough NOS into gas drag cars to understand what its trying to do. was wondered if built a cheap system if that would allow me to put more fuel in and keep temps down.

It won't help at all, because with a water meth kit you'll also be increasing the Compression ratio.

no, you will not help anything without a turbo.

nos is totally different, nos lowers the temp of any charge since it is so cold, making it more dense and letting it burn more fuel. meth is lowering only boosted charge and adding its own fuel to the mixture. its apples and oranges. now, apples to apples would be comparing nos to propane. both are a cold charge that lower a n/a or boosted applications air temp. propane acts as fuel and super cold charge to make the air more dense. again though, you will not see gains worth a damn without a turbo setup. sad to say there is no quick hp fix for these engines.

safest ways to make power in a idi - turn up ip once you got a pyro-add turbo-upgrade injectors-add intercooler from there idk much more oreo might but if you did that the idi you got would be all the power you could want

If it's an everyday driver I don't see the point in adding meth to it.

Turbo, intercooler, turned up ip, bb code injectors, bigger exhaust, and that's all you need as far as power adders.

ya mabc926 is right on the money with me if you do all that power will be no problem fuel milage maybe a little depends on how you drive but you would be able to scretc the tires easily

Well ill argue here i guess. You can keep adding fuel and making more power till you melt the engine down.. that is why it keeps getting hotter with more fuel... btu's are energy, energy is power. Thus, by using water/meth. you can add more fuel with less egts. Is this practicle w/out a turbo.. imo no. Hell for that matter only time it would be is for competition.

When you've done everything else and looking to keep the egts down pulling grade or whatever reason the system works. Whats scary is if you get a drippy squirter or pressure drop on the system and the water/methanol doesn't atomize.

Check out this tech article. It should answer alot of ?'s
