I donno water injection has been kinda makin my greenie sense tingle for a while, seems like if done right it should help pull some milage out. trick is making damn sure you can't get enough water into the intake to raise compresion too much (or hydrolock her)
Also, imho, while nontheless interesting, that video is wrong. That engine grenaded due to overspeed / mechanical failure which likely had nothing to do with the fact the mill was on water/meth. And to go one step farther and directly contradict the dude in the video, water/methanol has zip zero zilch to do with an engine revving too high, that blame lies one hundred percent with the genious behind the wheel. He makes it sound like using water/meth will over-rev the engine.
That "Splash" system is a really neat kit. The only thing i would improve is that the amount of water sprayed in varies in some degree to scale with engine rpms, aka, amount of air going in the engine, to create a consistant ratio of water/meth. to air... problem is, i have no idea whatsoever how to do that lol. and that is the only reason ive yet to build this toy for my truck. May have to engineer some sort of water methanol carball it would require im thinking is some sort of venturi somewhere in the intake that would create a sufficient signal to said venturi, but here i am way over my head.
runnin a venturi would be silly when on a turbo truck you could just run a pwm controller off turbo boost and come in realy close to proportional to feul
ok guys just shooting ideas around to see what i want to do when have to rebuild motor. i am looking at building custom twin turbo setup with one driven off each bank of cylinders and intercooled.
ok guys thanks just shooting ideas to see what i want to do when have to rebuild motor. i am looking at building a custom twin turbo intercooled system with one turbo run off of each bank of cylinders.
you couldn't route both turbos into one intercooler? also with twins could package them better i think as don't want anything hanging down when off-roading.
Depending on how you rout the pipe you could....it's just the space....if you took out the A/C you might have enough room for it all.
And as for stuff hanging down the cross over pipe (on my turbo anyways) runs right next to the oil pan...if anything is going to hit the cross over pipe it's taking the oil pan with it.
so if you want to run a twin turbo set up what are you looking at getting for boost?one turbo will grenade an idi if ya want it to.with a studded motor i dont think a guy needs more than 16-18# of boost.if your trying to make a hot rod you will spend a lot of money and in the end be very disappointed with a motor in pieces.as far as off roading these trucks are heavy so be careful where you take it if ya get stuck it wont be fun getting pulled out cause you will probably be stuck real good and will need a bigger truck to pull you out.i hunt and fish avidly year round and i have very few times where i HAD to be off road.not to say i never ventured where i shouldnt but i have been lucky
x2 with rupejosh. this is my truck on 37's. ontop of the ground one second, well into it the next. it wouldnt be my first choice for a serious off road rig. maybe if you took a regular cab, do a 5ft bed crop and bobtail it. cut out as much weight as possible. your easily at 1200lbs just drivetrain. add in your axles, drivelines, tires and your gettin up there in weight. to get my truck out, it took a tow truck. my dads 02 f250 diesel 4x4 and a 95 f150 4x4 hooked together couldnt get me out.
where i off road there is always skidders and dozers and it can get real muddy but have never been stuck in either of my 250's. more trouble getting between trees than mud or rocks. as for boost not going to exetremes, looking at running two small turbos so as not have to much boost. have another question but start new tread.
What does any of the last few posts have to do about methanol injection? Start another thread about wheelin or dual turbos as this is wasting my time checking responses. Nothing personal but I thought that's the whole reason for having topics, let's try to stay on them so we can learn what we are looking to learn about. Plus it plays hell for anyone in the future that does a search on the topic and has to read through all the other B/S to get to what they are looking for. It's no wonder why people don't search first before posting the basic/typical IDI questions. In reality any post after post #19 doesn't belong.
