Jumped 12V power to the top of the injector pump at the connector labeled "Fuel shut off solenoid" and it clicked. Filled the fuel tank. Was hard to start but then settled down and idled normal for about a minute and then just stalled. It seems like this problem is getting worse. At first it would go about a mile, then only about 100 yards and now it will just idle for about a minute. I don't see or hear any leaks except a small oil leak from the valve cover.
Any more advice is appreciated.

Its possible your injector pump is dying. A classic symptom is they will still produce a cold start and idle, but cannot produce a hot engine restart. Internal clearances increase as they age and a hotter pump has less viscous fuel flowing through it, so pressure loss is worse when its hot.

Do you know how many miles are on your current injector pump?

Only other thing I can suggest is to empty the fuel filter and fill it with strait dex3 auto tranny fluid (not synthetic) and see if it knocks anything loose in the pump.

Ford replaced the engine at 100,000 so now the new engine has only about 50,000. I don't know if Ford used the original pump when they replaced the engine.

They most likely kept the old pump, in which case it has paid for itself by now.

Wish I had a better answer for you. You don't have much to loose by trying the ATF trick, but its probably still a bit of a long shot.

Anyone else have some better ideas?

Could it be getting air in the lines. It seems strange to me that it would run great, even for a few minutes, if the injector was bad. But I don't know that much about diesel engines.

I didn't do a lift pump pressure and flow rate test. I don't know anything about it. Could you explain it to me?
Thanks.

You state you had trouble with the installation of the lift pump is it OK now.......

Take the filter header Schrader valve core out and hook a hose and pressure guage to the outlet.........crank engine see what you get for pressure, should have 4-6 psi from a good lift pump.

Volume test same place hook a hose to it crank over the engine 10 seconds you should get 1/3 pint of fuel minimum.

****Important the fuel shutoff solenoid (FSS) wire on the IP should be disconnected if you do not want a start just cranking. Re connect FSS after test complete.

Part Number: CP7803 for Azone guage pressure/vacuum
