Do you mean at idle or rolling the throttle? When it is cold it is normal to see a bit of light colored smoke but it shouldnt last but a couple seconds, when hot rolling black is a sign of either not enough air, or the IP is cranked up a couple flats. Okay so check the air filter to make sure it is good and no restrictions. My guess is that the IP might be up a couple flats.

White smoke is either coolant or superheated unburnt fuel (Not enough heat to burn it) ...

You need to smell the smoke to determine if it's coolant (sweet smelling) or fuel (Diesel smell).

Hows your Glow Plugs, without enough heat at startup Diesels will produce white smoke.

-Enjoy

Maybe cleaning the CDR and change fuel filter/air filter? It just sounds like the fuel is up so you might have to deal with it. On the otherside, maybe a wearing IP or injectors?

its spraying more fuel than you are burning from the sound of things. If you are rolling black coal then its way over fueled. Turning the nut back on the rear of that ip will help with fuel output and doesnt require wrenches. Do you have a pyro? If not i would get one asap. I shudder to think about rolling coal without a pyro haha. What does the exhasut in the am smell like? Does it burn your eyes and smell of raw fuel?

Well i am no genius or engineer but i believe that the chamber gets hotter with increased rpm, hence the need for a pyro when the fuel is turned up. You can melt a piston without boiling the rad over. The temp gets way hotter in there first, then the radiation effect of heat heats the water, then gets cooled and so on. If it is white in the am but turns black when warm or at high throttle, you are just overfueled imho.
