White Smoke

The wife drives her expy less than 5mi a day. Yesterday I noticed that when she started it alot of white smoke came out of it. After it idled for a minute the smoke stopped. In addition, I noticed that the tailpipe has carbon build-up. Could this be caused by water (condensation) in the oil or by low compression? The beast drives well and seems to have good power.

If your wife only drives 5 miles a day it may not have enough time to evaporate all the condensation in the exhaust pipe. Did you see this in the morning or afternoon? Also, look for a rusted out muffler this might indicate water pooling in the muffler. Hope that helps.

I saw the smoke in the a.m.

No rust in the muffler either.

Just guessing: bad head gasket? Warming up just enough to seal?
