timing and turning up pump
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...6-6-9-a-2.html
theres some good reads.
looks like RLDSL has one.i like his results on the last post of the second one.very honest statement and he claims he works on diesels for years.check it out:
" Setting a carb by ear and timing a diesel by ear are two completely different animals.
I've been working on diesels for YEARS and I tried timing my 7.3 by ear and thought it was good, seemed to run decent....it was quite a bit off, not good for things. There's just no real good way around the proper timing tools for any type diesel.People get lucky sometimes, but that's about it. Even on the european diesels i work on all the time, the ear just cant detect the minor differences between right on and way off. "
iv got to have mine checked too.so much to do still.dangit lol.

but im having fun NOT making payments, but instead setting up a truck like i want and need it.

that tool may go on my list too.i'll call around and see if theres a place still who can time these gems.
"Catfish...is that the piston on the drivers side, at the bottom of the injector pump, with a lever that goes up the side of the pump??? Also..is there any negative effects of advancing the pump too far. I bought a truck that was very sluggish and smoking. I found the injector pump marks not lined up correctly. After lining the marks(advancing the pump) it runs great and has TONS more power!!! that led me to advance it a little more...and more power was found. I don't want to over do it. It starts alot better now "
key words: TONS more power!!! lol.
it would be cool to have a huge meet, where someone timed us all and showed how far off some of us really are.i bet it would be drastic in many cases.
i was just reading last night on OBN i think it was Mel (the moose pump builder) was saying as the injectors and ip ware, the timing slowly retards.....or advances,i dont recall which way now.but goes to show it would be handy to have the tool.

I bought the Snap On pulse timing adaptor off of Ebay a few years ago for 1/2the price of new. I figured if I bought the name brand version and something went wrong with it, I would always have tech support and access to replacement parts.
