Would Someone please Explain the difference between the Ceramic Brake Pads and Standard Brake Pads ????
Is it worth the Extra Cash ?
Thanks......................
Well as far as I know standard brake pads are made of either a semi-metallic or full metallic pad compound. These pads as I have read (though this was sometime ago) tend to heat up faster and can cause scoring on the rotor itself on top of being fairly noisy in some cases.
Ceramic pads are just that they are made out of a high temp high friction ceramic material that has good heat dispersion so they don't overheat under high loads like racing or towing loads in steep terrain. I'm not 100% sure on these fact but that what I seem to remember.
If you are looking for new pads I would take a look at carbon metallic ones. After having noise and fading problems with semi metallic I installed a set of them from Performance Friction Brakes Performance Friction. They are quite and will not fad under the hardest braking conditions I could put them through pulling our rig in the Colorado mountains.
Metalic stop fastest but most wear to rotors and not made anymore
Semi next best at stopping, still wear but not so bad
ceramic stop the slowest but wear the best.
I used Ceramic....Replaced both Rear Rotor's , 1 of which would'nt Budge.....(Till I hit it twice with a Sledge Hammer) In about 3 Hours....
I must of been Lucky !

Correct. The ceramics also will not leave a noticable dust on the wheels like metallica nand semis will. Ceramics are actually louder than semimetallics, but this can be combatted by using a good anti squeal on the backing plates of the pads before installation.
BTW, I still have three sets of carbon fiber pads and rotors off of one of our SCCA cars. Groovy stuff! They do put off a black residue on the wheels and body though.
Thanks Denny , I will look into Them....
I think that I am going to go ahead and replace the Rotor's as well The Rear one's are looking a little Thin?
I replaced front and rears and used the factory rotors (89Kmiles), the rear ones are not as thick and the front and the pads are smaller. I have not had any trouble with brake dust but it did take a few miles to bed the new pads into the rotors.
I got 115k off the stock pads on my 04. They didn't turn the wheels black and did a good job of stopping. I bought the high dollar autozone brakes.... They were terrible. I know the factory pads are not the best at everything but they sure do a great overall job. Btw changing the brake fluid every 3-4 years will drastically improve braking since the fluid degrades over time.

What do you mean by putting the anti squeal on the back, I've never done this. Does this help? Just wondering.
