My wife owns a 1997 Explorer with the 4.0 and automatic overdrive transmission with 4x4. The vehicle has 195000 miles and runs and drives fine. She bought it used from her brother in law and he had a dealer install a rebuilt transmission. The vehicle now (when cold) will not go into reverse with out a loud clunk and cause the engine to miss and shake. The 0/D light flashes on the dash and you have to shut it off and start over and let it warm up for about 5 minutes to keep from doing this. Once it is warm it still takes a few seconds to engage into reverse and does so with a loud thud. When going directly to drive no matter how cold it is it does fine. Is it fixable or do I need to find out if there was warranty on this new transmission?
