I have a 02 F350 V10 with the Y pipe and a 5 star tuner. Noticed when I did my spark plugs that I have two broken manifold bolts. Not leaking or making any noise yet, but if I go through the work of fixing all the bolts, is it worth it to go to headers?
The truck spends 70-80% of its time towing. Will it help very much with power and mpg?
MPG probably not power absolutely yes. There was a very noticable difference in power to ground with my Thorley headers. Honestly since you do a lot of towing regearing to 4.30s would probably be a better investment than headers.
My mileage improved by just a couple. But a couple when I was only getting a couple is worth it. Was 12-13 on highway, now 15-17. The city driving isnt as noticable.
Power; i would like to think it does, but no way to prove it. More responsive but thats just opinion too.
Can't say about MPG. I've only had mine on for a week and only drove it for 2 days before I put it in the shop for some warranty work on the axle and pinion seals. Before that I had been driving the Ex with the FM BB II, CAI, and the tuner for about 6 months. By the SOTP, I would say the headers added noticeably more low end torque and probably some HP to go along with it. The sound is slightly louder than before which was slightly louder than stock. It has a really nice low rumble on light to moderate throttle in the lower RPMs. Still sounds like a twin v-6 at full throttle and at higher RPMs.
