Thorley headers or Banks headers

Anyone with a 2v V10 motor have either Thorley or Banks headers? Any recommendations? If so, why? I have an 05 Excursion (still has the 2v) -- I have Gibson catback, FIPK Intake, 4.88 gears. I plan on getting the headers and then SCT flash custom programmed at a dyno shop.

Thanks.

Do you know if there are any fit issues with Banks? I heard that the Gibson headers has fit issues.

Also do you know if Banks is ceramic coated? I know that Thorley is.

Thanks.

There are several guys here with Banks headers on a 2v that are happy with them. I don't think anyone has the Thorley's yet.

Banks are not coated because they are stainless steel where as the Thorley's are made from standard steel and need the coating for protection.

Happy BANKS owner here!! no experience with the Douge Thorly headers.

BANKS headers aren't that bad to install. drivers side is pretty easy, passanger side is a BIZTICH!! espiacialy for the 2 back bolts. other than that it wasn't that bad. i think it was about a 4 hour job (that also includes the BS breaks and the coke breaks)! i'm very impressed with them! really livens up the 2-valver!!

I have heard good things abourt he Banks too, and i was wondering if anyone has any experience with the whole Power Pack system. (thats the one with the headers, intake, muffler, exhaust pipes, etc...)

any info would be awesome! I'm trying to get my dad to let me do it.

I have a 2000 Excursion with the 2V V10

Thanks guys!

Thanks Jason for the insight -- the shop I always go to is getting me a quote for the Banks headers.

Good question afreemanmd -- I'd also like to know about the PowerPack -- I already have a catback and intake -- but if the Banks PowerPack is better as a whole, then I'd be willing to shell out the dough to get better performance. I hope it fits an 05 Excursion. The Banks website shows up to 04 -- I wonder if its because they think the 05+ Excursion is the 3v???

i've had the banks power pack on for the last 90,000 mi and could'nt be happier. it really woke up the V-10. as a side note, i did take the chip out. for some reason i got worse fuel milage with no noticible difference in power, but that may be just me. i have a 7.3 PS that the reprogrammed stage 5 chip found it's way into, now that was a real kick in the pants!

I have the banks headers and find them quite loud. I am probably going to try the JBA titanium ceramic coated headers next.

Full Banks Powerpack here. Been on there for 55K miles. The headers are top quality. No fitment issues at all. The "loudness" comes from there are thinner stainless steel. Dont forget the stocker manifolds are thick cast iron. You can hear the exhaust pulses quite clearly with the stainless headers. Sounds like at leak at cruising speeds and driving past a parked car or a stockade fence. Other than that you cant hear it that much.

Boxcar1974,

I was thinking of getting the Banks Powerpack too, and I was wondering about installing it myself. (with the help of my dad) Is it all bolt in, or does it require welding, trimming, cutting, etc...

I have a good set of tools at the house, and have done other work on the car like door lock actuators, new headlight harness, etc. I would consider myself reasonably technically inclined, and my dad is the same way, but neither of us weld. Would you recommend taking it to a shop or doing the installation ourselves? I thought it might be a fun project but I don't want to get in over my head.

Thanks!

Isaac
