Thumbs up GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE

Last Thursday I PM'd Cody at Power Hungry Performance about a small issue I was having. There was a shifting pattern in one of my tunes that I wasn't real happy with and couldn't get used to. He responded within the hour to my message and had already looked into the tunes I had recieved and knew how to fix it. We bantered back and forth for the rest of the day via PM and he gave me my RMA#. I pulled the chip Thursday night and dropped it off at UPS on Friday at lunch. Now, I am only about 150 miles from <ACRONYM title="Power Hungry Performance">PHP</ACRONYM>'s office, so I know I am lucky with regards to shipping time, but the chip arrived there on Monday morning at about 11:30. Cody messaged me at about 2:30PM to let me know he had finished making the changes and had the chip packaged and ready for UPS to pick it up. Lo-and-behold the chip was back in my hands when I got home from work on Tuesday evening. The changes he made were SPOT ON! I couldn't be more impressed and happier with the decision I made to go with <ACRONYM title="Power Hungry Performance">PHP</ACRONYM>.

I just wanted to share this experience with everyone and give credit where it is due.

God Bless, y'all.

That reminds me, I need to get my chip back to them about a cold start tune that we were talking about.
I've met Bill in person and he's a great guy.

I bug Cody all the time with questions. He's one smart feller, and a heck of a nice guy too.

Cold start tune?

Does this have anything to do with lowering the timing advance in the EOT timing table? If so, I've done this on my tunes, and it works great. No more insanely loud engine clatter when ambient and engine temps are cold The only side effect I noted was a very slight increase in white smoke for the first minute or two. Other than that, it sounds and runs like a completely warmed up engine.

Yeah, except I want to give it some more advance at idle to help control the smoke.
This engine, even though it's brand new smokes 10x as much as the old one when cold and loads up with fuel.
It wouldn't surprise me at all to learn that they have dropped the compression ratio to comply with emission standards. (NOX control).
Soon as I drive off it clears up.
I don't want to fill a pristine tree filled campsite with a bunch of smelly diesel smoke when I'm starting up in the morning and heading out for a day of sight seeing.
I have to drive it to clear it and I can't do that until I am out of the campsite.
I know it will make the engine louder, but from what I am able to understand about the tables that they use, there is little rpm windows that you can change the values for a lot of stuff.
I want to advance the start of injection below 60 degrees below 1300 rpm.
Leave everything else alone.
I need to get off to work now or I would make a much longer post about it.

Thanks....Im guessing you went with the tow because of the camper? and obviously smaller things. What helped you with the decision for the 100hp? why not the 120?

Im not into flogging my truck. I wanted to fill the 6th position with something useful and the 100 Perf tune was the most useful one left. All of the quiet idle and smoke tunes are a little suspect to me with regards to how hard they are on the motor.

I will second the service from PHP, I had a hardware issue and Cody delt with it swiftly. Rma # out the door and it is on it's way back to me. I would highly recommend the Pheonix FU.................it's great having the option to change..................

Ahhhh, I see.

Have you done a compression check yet to see what the average compression is across the cylinders? I would be curious to see what the readings came out to be.

Pocket; I'm not going to do a compression check simply because this is a brand new engine and my life is busy enough.
My ear tells me what I need to know in the morning.
First 50 feet of driving away on a cold morning the engine sounds like a gas engine with the choke closed. Muffled diesel sound, a flubbering sound that is very similar to a flooded gas engine, with a lot of white excess fuel smoke out of the tailpipe, then it clears out and sounds normal.
From then on it runs normally with no smoke and good power.
