My check engine light has been on. I was on my way home one day to replace the o2 sensors, floored it to pass a car and the light went off. After replacing only one of the sensors (the other was too damn hard to get to, didn't have time or patience), I was driving down the road and the light came back on. Could this be caused by the other sensor or some other problem? Also while slightly appling throttle there is a slight but noticeable skip could this be timeing or back to sensor problem?
Take it to a shop and have them run it for codes. Some will do it for free. Not many though. Mine was a air charge sensor on top of the intake. But it could be 100000 things!
Is there a autozone close by? They will check your computer for codes for free. I have used them a couple of times. They come out to the parking lot and plug in there code reader and then tell you what the code means. You do not have to buy any thing. a shop will charge you from 50 to 80 bucks!!
No Shops!!! A little horror story of mine involving shops: took my f-150 to precision tune for a code check as it was spark-knocking randomly, cost $265 for....a throttle position sensor. bout $25 at Advance and 30min install. SHops are evil.

If your vehicle is an '84-95 Ford truck (some specific vehicle info would be good ), you can pull the codes yourself anywhere with a paperclip.
That is easy to do, but the light flashing can be confusing.
