okay I'm brand new here. The truck is my boyfriends, a 1982 f100 3.8l v6. he was messing around with something and broke the low pressure return, which is copper. i cant find the metal hose with the fittings ANYWHERE, and this truck is the only way he can get around. any suggestions?
thank you, i mostly need the fittings on the ends that are nowhere to be found online... and advanced and autozone dont have them in their computers either -_- (this is why i own a jeep hahaha)
no he only broke the copper tube in the center.
the only thing hes worried about is replacing a copper tube with a rubber one because there is a threaded fitting on the end. from what it looks like you could just take it off and clamp the new one on but he insists that you cant put a rubber hose in there.
Are you talking about the long metal tube that goes down underneath the engine?
I'm not sure where you'd buy that, BUT you shouldn't have much trouble finding one at a junkyard. They're not rare or anything, so you might be able to get one cheap.
For what it's worth though, this same tube has a break in it on my truck (that, or some dope cut it for some reason), and it has a length of rubber hose connecting the two halves. It's been that way for eight years and it's still working fine.
That part has been obsolete for a long time. I needed one almost 10 years ago now. What happens is the tube rubs the crossmember it's attached to, and wears a hole in it. It goes along the crossmember as a way of cooling the fluid off before returning it to the pump.
You can cut the bad section off and replace it with a rubber section no problem untill you find another in the wrecking yard.
thank you all for your help. I didn't think that there should be a problem changing it to a rubber hose. i was almost positive that it would be fine but he insisted, when i told him my dads '01 ford and my jeep have rubber hosing, "a rubber one wont work, its not a jeep its an old ford" -_-' sometimes i think he needs to realize that its pretty much just the same as any other car.
As far as putting a new piece on though, would you just cut off where he broke it and clamp the rubber hose on?
