Hey guys. I'm normally on the IDI side, but i just got a F150 and i need some help.
When I'm accelerating from a stop, the engine will rev up, then a second later the trans will start pulling. Now I'm positive that this hesitation isn't normal behavior. I changed the trans filter, but it didn't change anything.
Here's a couple vids of what it's doing. In the second one, watch when i put it in drive, how long it takes to actually start pulling. Same thing at lights and stop signs...
What color was the ATF, and did it smell any burnt? I'm thinking you may be suffering from reduced line pressure, this will cause slow application of the clutches like what seems to be your issue... How does she shift, real soft?
I would suggest trying to get any codes that its throwing out. If that doesn't turn up anything useful, I know that AAMCO will diagnose a transmission for free. I hope this helps.
Is that your check engine light on? If so it might help to know the codes.
Its hard to tell whats going on in the first video but that delay in the second video doesn't look good. I am thinking a problem with the forward drum, is the same delay there in reverse?
There is about half that delay in reverse. It feels somewhat normal.
Yes to the check engine light. It comes on after i've been driving and the engine is warm. Trans acts this way all the time.
The fluid looked brand new and was not burnt. Some times it shifts soft, some times its firm, but not harsh (the way i thought it should be). You can see in the first vid, after i cross the track and go to accelerate how the engine jump pretty high without the speedometer following. And i was pretty easy on the go peddle.
That engine speed jump looked like it was cause your converter stayed unlocked, the E4OD converter is a very loose thing that under load will allow up to 600 rpms difference between engine speed and trans input shaft speed (works good as a gear splitter sometimes, lol).

I second pulling the codes.
As far as AAMCO goes - has anyone ever gone into an AAMCO store and *not* had them say: "you need a complete transmission rebuild" ?
I have seen transmissions fail in so many different ways, a lot of transmissions have more than one problem going on at the time that something failed. Its real hard to diagnosis a problem on a forum, without a scanner, data stream, and me behind the wheel all I can do give a educated guess with the information I am given.
Otahyoni's problem is difficult to nail down even with the video because it seems like a few things may be happening. The road test video shows the rpms spike around 20, about the time for 3rd at light throttle. This could be a problem with the direct clutches, he says reverse seems normal, this also uses the direct clutches, so its a hard call. The delay in drive tells me a problem with the forward drum, it could be a hardened inner seal or worn rings due to a early 93 center support set up, who knows. Reverse requires a jump in line pressure to work, so it would seem that the transmission is capable of raising line pressure, wont know for sure without a gauge.
These two problems have nothing in common. Ether one of the problems could be major failure and warrant a inspection and most likely a rebuild. It is a 93 after all and a unknown history, lots of changes and updates since then.
Gumper, you're right. It pulls ok, but when i force 1st, there is a noticeable difference.
JK, I checked again and reverse works like its supposed to. If i go from park to 1, there is still a delay, but it's shorter and the truck really wants to move. If i bump it back to 2 or OD, i feel the trans let go for a second, then pull, but not as hard, as if it's in second now.
I hope this isn't a major failure... Since you work at aamco, how much should i expect to pay for the R/R of my E4OD?
