Transmission reverse ?

Transmission reverse ?

I have a 2000 4x4 with the 7.3l. Going forward is fine, if I put a 6000 lb trailer and try and back it up a not so steep hill I have to put it in Lo to get it to go. Do I have an issue or is this normal. I always thought reverse was geared a little lower than first.

Is it a lack of power or do you think it's a trans problem?

It actually sounds normal to me. 6k trailer and a 8k vehicle is a lot of weight. I often put it in 4 low to do that very thing. I wish there was a way to switch to 2 low and not have to use 4wd.

I kinda think it's normal, especially with that heavy of a trailer.

I am worried it is a trans problem, going forward up hill does not seem as difficult.

It's not a boat trailer is it? The ones with surge brakes? Because these are impossible to back up a hill, if you don't release the brake.

No, unfortunately it is not a boat. It is a two axle trailer with electric brakes with a Kubota on it.
