Mine seems to be accurate. It will display as high as 196F on the highway and hold a pretty consistant 15F under what is displayed for oil temp once up to operating temperature. I've got the 203 stat.
Just got my scangauge II installed and getting it set up. I read in another thread where one member said that he pulls codes with his. I purposely over boosted so the ses light would come on to see if the SG would read the code and it didn't. If any of you are able to read codes with yours how did you get it to do it?
When I made the ses light come on I went to the main menu and selected scan. It said no codes found. Obviously there was a code so I disconnected the scangauge and hooked up the superchips that I use to pull codes and got the p0238 that I expected. If you guys are able to pull codes with your scangauge I'm sure I'm just doing something wrong.

Then how do we reconcile WH90 getting exact temp readings with the temp gun? Just an odd coincidence?
IIRC, the ScanGauge just reads coolant temp from the OBSII port, and isn't accurate in the auto models. Same with the oil temp in the manual trucks.

I'm certainly in no position to question anyone on here, I'm new to all of this and just curious.
In Clay's post, he starts of by saying "If I Recall Correctly....". Sounds like there's some wiggle room built in there.
I'm just wondering how guys are getting a reading and then confirming it with a temp gun, that's all. If it can't read the temp., what are the chances that the erroneous figure scangauge reports is the same temperature when measured with an external devise?

If nothing else, looks like this subject has brought a dead horse back to life.
There are now two open threads on the subject with many different opinions.
I have a Autometer analog coolant temp gauge that I rely on for actual temps. The Scangauge and the analog gauge readings vary considerably. As I usually am pulling a 14k 5er I will put my trust in the analog gauge. I use the Scangauge for many other readings and believe it is a great tool.
My fault, just was trying to back a comment with others knowledge. Didn't want someone to freak out if they were to see the crazy numbers like Barney and I see. Maybe the PCM defaults somehow and guesses the temp? But why would mine guess so high? And according to another fellow the ect doesn't even run through the PCM. So why is there an or how is their an option to view it on the AE or scan gauge?
What a bummer, always thought because I had a coolant sensor it was reading accurately from that, o well, appreciate the info Clay and Pocket. Bulla, you raise an interesting question, why does it display other scanning abilities if it doesn't read them for our year trucks unless, the newer trucks had those capabilities, your guess is as good as mine. I can say this, my scan gauge reads my wifes 97 Expedition sensors and I couldn't be happier. It will read HP, Tourqe, real time fuel mileage and fuel level just to name a few and its pretty cool where as it doesn't read those selected scans on my 03 SD..

Question on the horse power gauge. The manual says you can change the setting from 0 to 99%, how do you know what to set the percentage at? Mine is set at 99% and when I was getting on it pretty hard the other day it showed 434 hp! Now that would be awesome if it was correct but I seriously doubt that I'm putting out that much HP!
The value displayed by this XGauge is only valid after the coolant temperature gets above 127* F. Before the engine is warmed up the displayed value will go up to 255 this about double actual then start over at 127. This is becasue this PID is scaled for two different ranges. It works good on my 2000 7.3 and seems to be accurate. This has been a long sought after XGauge for the 7.3 crowd for quite some time.
This is a good way to see how long your glow plugs are staying on. They will stay on for quite a while after the engine is running and the glow plug (wait to start) light has gone out.

Wished I could help you on the HP setup or outcome, never dug into that. I pretty much just plugged it in and set up all the scan options and I seen which ones worked versus both trucks. I don't want to go changing anything with her vehicle since its in my truck 99.9% of the time, even though I don't get that HP scan.
