Reason: incomplete
on my 78 with the same motor there are multiple marks and #'s on the balancer, there are no numbers on the pointer, You might need to take a little sandpaper and clean up the balancer some more
have painted the groove on the balancer, see no marks on the metal plate over the balancer to line up painted mark with
Again, as Mark said the marks are not on the metal plate, they are on the balancer. There will be numbers (degrees of crankshaft rotation relative to TDC, before and after) stamped next to the marks. If the balancer is dirty, the marks are very hard to see. The metal plate is just the pointer, the tip of which points to the mark on the balancer. There are no marks on the pointer.
thanks Mark
was out sanding after i wrote the previous reply and found them. Painted with white,
timed and adjusted carb for vacuum - only get about 16 so will do old tried and true adjust till ping and back away to see if it helps the vacuum total - replaced all lines so as to catch anything old . Will find out if its just old engine lol
