I'm satisfied with my Monroe Reflexes. They have a decent ride around town and are adequate for towing my 10,000 pound travel trailer. Less expensive, too.

I agree. They are, IMO-the best compromise in cost, ride quality, effectiveness in towing and daily driving duties.

Had them on my 03 and they lasted until I traded it in on the 05....
And DANG you guys !!!
was saving up for new 60" HDTV and
now u made me go and spend $329 @ jc whitney for the 9000's with free shipping....
(They priced matched the 4wheelonline price when summit wouldn't)
Guess I will use the $100 Rancho gift card for my tv savings
Hijacking....I have a lifted Excursion Rancho does not list any 9000xl's for approx 6" of lift for the Ex. I know the extended and compressed lengths of my current shocks...ProComp. I have found 9000xl's that are comparable in length..within 3/4"...my question is are they valved the same?? The ones I found are for a Dodge 1500 w/ a hemi. Do you guys think these will work???
I have a thread on another forum called "Bilsteins are miserable".
I wanted "the best" so I picked up some Bilsteins and put them on my Ex. Miserable ride. They were worse than the OEMs I replaced that had 90K miles or so on them. No control when needed. In a turn the rear end of the Ex floated all over. On a bumpy road they jarred teeth. When I had about 2000 miles on the Bilsteins I bought some Rancho XLs and put them on. Yes, I was willing to take off the Bilsteins (and the money I spent on them) and throw them away because I was so displeased. And, yes, they are just sitting in my garage.
The Rancho XLs have the adjustability feature. I was able to set it where I like it and forget it. Similarly, if I decide to tow or carry a heavy load, like camping gear, a load of people, stuff up on the rack, I can turn the dials and stiffen them up if I like.
But, for my likes, the Bilsteins are not worth the premium price you pay for them.

I've emailed and called to make sure Rancho doesn't offer anything for lifted rigs over 4". I'm going with Fox Racing.
Just a quick note. I have a 2005 Excursion Diesel with 93,000 miles. We pull a 32' Coachman travel trailer maybe two times a year with the truck. All other times it is a daily driver. I bough the adjustable Rancho shocks alongside the Hellwig sway control bar while the truck was brand new (less than 200 miles). This is a great shock....but.....I just got a leaky front right shock.
I always thought shocks were wear items and were due for replacement after deterioration in ride quality. Now I see that theu have a lifetime warranty? Don't know what the warranty is but look like I am a candidate........
This is a matter of personal preference. I went with the Bilsteins and have been happy with and yes they give you a stiff ride when not loaded but when towing they are second to none.
I asked the same question 6 months ago, 90% of the guys said bilsteins??? Go figure....I was told the stock shocks are junk right away. Bilsteins were the way to go..guess not anymore. my two cents..

I got an extra 9000xl shock when I replaced mine and the company said to keep it so I will sell it to you cheap to get rid of it. I love them on my truck so far!

I personally feel that Bilsteins are the best shocks made. I had to stay within my budget this time around,so my Ex got a set of Monroe Reflex's since they were half the cost of the Bilsteins.
