hey guys I have a question and it may be kinda dumb, just at a loss here. I recently picked up a 86 f250 w/ 6.9, I'm trying to just do all the usual maintenance so at least I know when it was done last. The fuel filter it had when I bought it obviously was not changed in quite some time but was one of those all in one type with no separator bowl or drain valve, just a filter. Ive been all over by me, 2 ford dealers, napa, auto zone, advance, aid auto and car quest, and all everyone has is that one piece design and no one even lists a filter with a separator. I really would feel more comfortable with it if I could grab one that had a separator cause from what I know about diesels is the are suppose to have a separator and drain, just wondering if anyone knows where I can grab one and maybe a part number I can reference. Thanks.
The parts stores are right. If you look where the drivers side firewall meets the inner fender you should see the stock water seperator canister. These can leak and allow air into the fuel system so a good first step is to plug the drain pipe with a bolt or similar.
You could also visit a junk yard and pick up a filter head from a `88 or later truck which would let you use the filter with the water drain and then use a short length of hard line to bypass the stock seperator canister.
Hopefully other opinions will follow.
Ok cool thanks for the help and the quick replies, gonna take a look @ it tomorrow I got some free time in the evening so hopefully i can see whats up with it. Thanks again.
