Hello all.
I have just purchased a 2000 F250 SD 7.3 Power Stroke Diesel. I spent 30 minutes today trying to find the fuel filter/water separator drain valve but could not locate it. The engine owners guide is not very detailed. Can anyone give me detailed directions as to where it is located? Or if someone knows of a web site that has a 'detailed' diagram of the 7.3 power stroke engine - that may be helpful also. Thanks for your help.
The fuel filter drain valve on my 01 is attached to and located in the back of the filter bowl. Its a yellow tab that you swivel about a quarter to a half of a turn. Don't forget to put a drain tub under the truck.
Do yourself a favour and take a piece of fuel line from the local parts store and attach it to the little metal outlet of the water/fuel seperator. So when you drain the bowl , you dont spill diesel all over your front suspension. With the hose attached , you can direct the fuel into a catch pan allot easier.....
To all,
Thanks so much for your willingness to help.
With your help, I did find the drain valve. It is indeed, behind the filter bowl.
JoeBoost, your suggestion about the rubber hose on the drain tube is excellent....I will do that immediately.
I have a friend who had a 2000 F350 PSD...when I asked him, he said he didn't know where it was. He drove that truck for 65,000 miles and never had the water in fuel light come on.
Have any of you ever had to drain the water separator? I am in California...does the weather have something to do with it? Thanks again for all of your help.
Scott62,
I live in Northern CA and with 54,000 miles on my 01 and have yet had the water in fuel light come on. I think it has more to do with the fuel than the location. Some service stations are notorious for having water in thier tanks.
