Julie , you crack me up !!! I guess we nailed that one down !! Looks like PapaJoe's 52 will need a '51 heater boot some time in the future . When that time rolls around let me know guys & I will hook you up. Later , Denny
Julie is partial to '51's since she was a year late and couldn't get a 50 to have a really good looking truck! <STIRS pot the>
LOL!
Ok PapaJoes!
Slang nomenclature 101!
The 48-52s we used to call "Bonus Built." But have since learned that the Bonus Built is really only the 48-50s. It was a Ford Advertising name. We call them 'Monkey Faces" as well because of....well, see this link:
Now that we can't properly call our 51s and 52 "Bonus Built" anymore, we all searched the sales paraphernalia for the marketing cliche Ford changed to in 1951 and it was "Economy Built." There has been some derogatory name calling by the Monkey face people saying our beautiful truck grilles look like "Manure Spreaders" But as you know this is just jealousy.
We affectionately call the 53-56s "Effies." For F-100s (53 was the first F-100 year)
And the 57-60s we call "Refrigerators" because of their box like shape!
66s? Not sure - we don't chat alot with those folks
I'm lovin it here... So I'm on my way to pick up some tools and such to start taking off the box and the doors (so we can push her indoors and continue in the shop) and I see that both have oversized philips and robbie fixtures. What kind of penetrant should do y'all recommend (if not trusty WD-40) and are pneumatic impact drills / bits good to go?
I use WD or PB to loosen old fasteners, but have a cut off wheel or saws all handy just in case. I've used impact bits for philips/straight fasteners with some success, though usually if they don't come loose with the first few hits of an impact you're probably going to have to drill them out/cut them off.
Oh, and while we've covered this before...the 51-52's with no offense to your fine project are called Economy Built because they're built from scraps...apparently scraps from Ford's venture into producing manure spreaders. ;-)

Pastor James, today you are lucky you are a "man of God!" LOL!
...And I thought the Church was opposed to evolutionary theory, whether it be primate to human or monkey to truck! (Yeah I went THERE) Anyways... I just wanted to say thanks for everyone's patience with my simple questions. Like Julie has corroborated, this truck seems to be original and intact so taking it apart will be done a little more delicately and me asking questions like, "the running boards are separate from the fenders right?" may seem naive but I really don't want to destroy parts we'll clean up and use again. Thanks again y'all! Darrin + Joe

Yes, but expanded answer in you other thread with pics.
Hey gang, Joe here after a 2 year hiatus (we were warned it wouldn't go start to finish in one shot!) with a little update. The engine of our 52 with 51 Deluxe cab is now being rebuilt and we're sending our rolling chassis to be blasted and painted. The next step is the tranny - Grandpa Joe swapped the 3-on-the-tree for a four speed mod with a stickshift coming up the floorboard back in the day and we'd like to put it back to 3-on-the-tree.
Where can we source out a proper 3 speed?
The other question is about the running boards - Grandpa or one of his nephews (my dad's cousin) piped a new exhaust through the running boards and the subsequent mods for that have left them both as the only metal on the truck that is really beyond the worth of repair.
Where can we source out new running boards or immaculate used ones?
Great to be back - don't hesitate to fire any questions to refresh my and your memories. Sorry I was away so long! j
