95 F250 351 to 460 swap
Hello all,
I have a 1995 F250 2WD with a stock 351 and 5 speed manual tranny. The engine still runs well but has 160,000 miles and leaks pretty badly. I'm thinking ahead to when it dies; I'd like to have more power, torque, & cubic inches. Should I stroke the 351 out to something like 427 CI, or should I go with a 460 (and maybe stroke it out as well)? How much is involved in going from a 351W to a 460? Mounts, bellhousing, accessories, etc...I'm a decent mechanic but my hobby is old Pontiacs, I've never swapped around with Fords before. There's a guy in the local Craigslist here selling a fuel injected 460 (didn't say what year) for $350 OBO, & I'm wondering if I should scarf it up & set it aside for a rainy day. Thanks all for your help.

Only thing that I can tell you is that if you go for the 460 swap you will need to look for another transmission. The 5 speed that you have has an integral bellhousing and the bellhousings are different between the small block and the big block. So if you go that route you would be looking for a ZF5 transmission for a 460.

Here's an example of what you can do for under $3k on the Windsor platform, it would cost significantly more to get there with EFI but that applies to a 460 based motor as well, and converting to carb won't be difficult since you have a manual trans.
$950 cast stroker kit
$1000 RHS 180cc cast iron heads assembled with 2.02/160" valves
$500 750cfm intake and carb
$200 Cam and Lifter set.
