color, L = light blue, E =colonial white
trans, b = 3 speed overdrive
axle, 02 = 3.89 ratio
ser # f10 =f100, C=292 , 8= 1958, R= San Jose CA., the Last 6 digits is the consecutive unit number. that was a hot factory pickup for 1958 it has the 205 horsepower courier 292 in it. 2bbl carb and 9.1 compression ratio. my guess it was a special order.

Thanks.

Any chance you can tell if it was a 4 x4? one vin decoder I checked out mentioned this. Truck has been through various owners who have made lots of changes over the years. It is not currently 4 x 4 but we would like to take it back to original. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

153 net HP @ 4,100 RPM.

If your truck had 4WD, it would have been an aftermarket conversion, most likely by Marmon-Herrington.

First year for factory installed 4WD in F100/250's: 1959 / 1979 for F350's.

Even if your truck was a 1959 or a 1960, there is no way to tell if by the VIN if it's 4WD...or not, because...

In these two years, Ford used the Series code of F10 for both. 1961 and later F100 4WD's have a Series code of F11.

1953/58 & 1961/83: The Series code of F10 denoted a 2WD only.

Where in the heck did you come up with this info?

In 1958, the 223 I-6 was standard equipment, the 272 2V and 292 2V were optional.

Most Couriers (passenger car sedan delivery's-based off 2 door station wagons) came with 223's. There is no such thing as a Courier specific 292.

The only "hot" 292's (with a 4V carb and dual exhausts) were installed in 1955/56 Thunderbird's and Ford/Mercury passenger cars.

If you wanted a "hot" Y block in 1957 Thunderbird's and Ford/Mercury Passenger Cars, Ford offered 3 different 312's: One with a 4V, one with dual quads, one with a 4V and a McCulloch Supercharger.

These engines were only offered in 1957.

Bill, i did the best i could with his numbers, i dont want anyone to think im a expert, im not. the hot comment is relative, as that 292 was a big as it got in pickups in 58. I do know about the 312 engines a friend had a 312 powered 57 fairlane with the holley 4000 t pot carb. it ran pretty good as i remember. anyway as far as his truck being 4 wheel drive or not, there would be extra holes in the floorboard for the transfer case shifter i would think.

Hey 55??? We're all experts here and were all amateur's at the same time.

When someone contributes and another member adds that mean two people have learned something new!

William, you be nice to "55" now or I won't let the two of you play together anymore! LOL
