Foreign VIN
I'd like to help you, but be aware that I'm guessing.
One would need a 1964/72 Argentine truck parts catalog to decode this info properly. AFAIK, no member of FTE has one.
While the VIN is similar to US VIN's, as are some of the codes stamped on the plate. I'm only guessing that they decode to the same as US
US truck VIN's have 11 digits (1948/80), this Argentine VIN has 12 digits.
What I see in the VIN that might be the same is F10 = F100 2WD / 490732 = 1964, assembled January 1964.
The L VIN engine code was used in the US in 1957/58 for the 272 2V, after that it wasn't used again till 1966, and then for the 534 4V gasser.
1957/64 US VIN's used C for the 292 2V .. 272 2V wasn't installed in F series trucks after 1960. So which of these Y blocks did FoMoCo of Argentina install in 1964?
BA might be the assembly plant code, but I haven't a clue what it decodes to. US VIN's have a single letter for the assembly plant code.
Plate: 114" wheelbase / The H COLOR code was Sahara Beige in the US / US MODEL code: F100 = F100 2WD, 5,000 lbs. GVWR
TRANS code: A (US): 1963 and later Ford type 3.03 3 speed manual all syncromesh trans. But prior to 1963, TRANS A was the Ford light duty 3 speed with non syncro (crash) first gear.
Which of these transmissions was installed in Argentina?
US: AXLE code 11 = Ford 9" rear axle / 3.70-1 / 3,300 lbs. rear axle capacity.
US: MAX G.V.W. LBS: 5,000 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.
US (292 2V) 135 net HP @ 3,800 RPM
T =
No comparable code.
The engine is supposed to be a 292 V8 with some differences from the US ones like compression ratio. It was called F1 here and developed into F2 for later F100 models.
The truck is from 1964, so the manufacture date ciuld be right
The color is something within green/blue
The gear box is a 3 speed with first gear sinchronized
I do not know about the rear axel, but I will find which one is
I will keep on searching and let you know what
I find!
Thank you very much!
