go up to the 750 manual choke carb,,the motor needss it.. if you get the electric choke carb it will be too lean, altho you could change the pins

Please explain how the type of choke will effect the mixture condition of the engine? Wait a minute, don't bother you can't because it doesn't effect jetting at all.

Unless he is hot for 5600+ rpm and wants to skip the low end torque stuff, which was what he stated he wants, the 750 will hurt low end torque, not help it.

CRABBO, you don't really understand carburetion at all do you? Bigger is not better for a street motor.

hey bear there you are again trying to get me..the eldebrock carburators are set up differently from the factory electric chokes are set for fuel economy and mmanual chokes are set for power the jets are the same but the pins are not.. as for the cfm the 750 will not harm the low end tofque of his motor but when he is under load he will appreciate the lager jets and ports of a 750 even if he is not using all of the cfm's..and yes i know a "little about carburation" have a nice day

The type of choke has ZERO, ZIP NADA, NOTHING what so ever to do with fuel economy. Where do you get this crap? With in several minutes at the most a choke is OFF and is no longer effecting how the carb functions.

Know this is an old thread but what did you use for a carburetor with that setup? I just picked up a nice cleaned up 429 CJ intake on eBay, but I realize the Holley Street Avenger I've been using isn't going to work with it... the car it'll be running on is a 69 Lincoln Mark III. Will a Quadrajet bolt on?

Also sorry for the newb questions, but I have a few related to this setup:

1. Would it be beneficial/not terribly expensive to have a machine shop try to port match or do any work on the Lincoln heads (C8VE) to make them work better with the cobra jet intake, or should I just bolt the intake on and see what happens? The heads are pretty much bone stock right now.

2. I have a suspicion the timing chain is one of the retarded ones bc the "long block" was rebuilt some years ago and if I remember for some reason they used a build kit for a late 70s motor.. How would i know for certain if the timing chain is correct?

3. Any cam recommendations for a 5000# car to make it haul *** (and still be street legal)? I may use it to haul a trailer from time to time, too. Rear-end gearing is a tad higher than stock: 3.25:1

I put an aluminum SCJ intake on my 460. I did the port matching myself, using the proper SCJ intake manifold gaskets as a guide. Other than the port matching, the heads are stock. I can't say if it made a difference because I never tried it with mismatched ports.

I'm not too sure how you could check your timing chain w/o taking the timing cover off. There has to be a way....

As far as cam goes, I used a COMP CAMS extreme energy 262 cam. It revs to 5500 RPM with the matching valve springs. It's a great cam for my 2wd truck, or a heavy car. I also have 3.25 gears. It's a little long winded (once it gets traction), but it still hauls butt. You should have no trouble towing with it either. Good luck.

I’m sort of lost, I’m new to fords I used to be a Chevy man but decided to build a ford this time, I have a 460 that came out of an 1994 f250, it used to be fuel injected until I swapped it to carbureted, I need a new intake and my buddy has one that supposedly fits cobra jet heads, will this intake fit stock 460 heads? Part number for the intake is 2966.

Welcome to FTE.

No Ford carb intake will fit Ford EFI heads on the 460. You can get a manifold or an adaptor for you existing manifold.

thats weird, legit just had it running yesterday with a stock intake off of a different 460 that was carburated. I swapped it from EFI to carburated buddy.

Beats me. Nowhere do I find anything other than "they don't fit". Some reference modifying a Victor intake to work with EFI heads. What are the casting numbers on the heads in question?
