I'm getting ready to replace the bearings in the rear of my 2003 f250. Can anybody tell me what size the four-point hub socket is for the hub nut? I have a couple of four point hub sockets, but I want to make sure I have one that fits before I tear it apart, since I won't exactly be able to drive to the tool store once I do.
I know it takes a special "castle" socket. I own a couple. Just looking to see if I have the right size before I open it up. I don't want to buy one if I already have the right size. Also don't want to tear it open if I don't have the right one.
Tearing it apart consists of removing the axle, about 5 minutes of time, lifting is not necessary, nor removal of rear wheels, then, if your current sockets are not the right size, 5 minutes to put axle back in. well worth the time if your not sure about your sockets.
I was doing some research the other day and came up with Ford tool #205-448. OTC #6601. Most places list this as 2003-up F250 & F350, but my 2001 service manual calls out the 205-448 for my truck. I suspect that it fits all 1999 and up Superdutys.
Well, a measurement across the outside diameter of the socket would have worked. Or center of pin to center of pin. Inside diameter. Whatever. Doesn't matter now. I bought one already.
