Bronco good tow vehicle?

My boss is looking to add drain tile jobs to our gutter company but he is self employed and parks both his work vans on his driveway. These two van's cannot tow a trencher along with the 1,000 lb gutter machines inside them. So to help him out(and me since I don't own a car of my own yet) I would buy the tow vehicle and tow his trencher and buckets of gravel if needed.

I was looking at 3/4 ton ford pickups but they are very scarce to find decently priced. My only knowledge of the trencher is that's it is a case. which doesn't help much.

I thought about getting a bronco because sure there's not alot of payload inside the bronco, but honestly he's looking to just get gravel delievered for these jobs anyways. So only emergencies would gravel need to be brought along.

I was looking at bronco's because there's a decen't amount under $2k in my area, my brother tow's his race car with his so I figure a bronco would tow a 1500lb trencher no problem.

I need some help with deciding.

yea it will tow it. but so would a half ton ford pickup with the same engine/tranny and you could install overloads and then use the bed for those emergency's.

Welcome to FTE and the Big Bronco Forum. We will do our best to get you the most accurate info we can.

It would do the job and never flinch. But as Kem said, so would a similarly equipped pick-up. Aside from the cargo advantages, the pick-up's slightly longer wheelbase might be a bit more stable on the open road (highway) with that much weight behind it. I am certainly not one to oppose the purchase of a Bronco. I just have to think that as a designated tow vehicle, it is going to end up with stuff tossed in the back because that's just what happens to tow vehicles when the trailer is full and the other work trucks have already left. Keep this in mind if you plan on using the Bronco as a daily driver. The cabin quality will deteriorate quickly with muddy accessories and tools tossed in the back.

I personaly would not use a Bronco for a dedicated tow vehicle due to the short wheel base but just so you know, I recently towed a Bronco II back along the coast with my full size with a 302 in it. The trailer was tandem axle with electric brakes. When I pulled across the scales I showed about 500lbs tonge weight and 4800 lbs trailer weight. My Bronco pulled the load just fine without being pushed around. The only problem I had was having to grab 2nd gear going uphill. If you're going to do it, you shouldn't have any problems with 1500 lbs but the pickup would be a much better option for a work truck.
