Grill removal

I am trying to remove the grill from my 65. Its an aluminum one, and is in decent shape so I dont want to damage it if I can help it. I have all the visible bolts out but on the bottom of the grill I can see some kind of clip at the bottom on each side, kinda straight down from where the headlights are. Can anyone tell me the best method to remove this thing?!

Those clips are called "Extruded U Nuts"; they can be a pain to remove; After years of soaking in rusted debris; they have a tendence to break and just spend as you try to loosen / rachet off the bolts. I've had to use regular & needle nose vise grips to clamp onto the clips to remove them. On acuople occasion a open end 9/16 wrench can hold the clip while loosening, the bolt
Just a gee wez though.

I finally got the grill out, ended up using a small cresent on the clips. Was a pain, and I'm sure I have plenty more to remove. I think I will try one of those plastic clip removal tools for newer cars doorpannels. Maybe the pressure of me pulling on the bolt head will be enough.

check out my reply to your thread about broken nuts...Ive taken apart umpteen of these noses...not easy as Im in the northwest where things do rust...

If you need pics of the parts themselves to see how the parts are set up, let me know as Ive got a full nose less hood in house here...hoods in storage :-)
