I recently purchased a 98 EB Expy and just noticed the brace is missing from the 3rd row seat which allows you to prop it up. I guess I could find a short metal rod or something to use to prop it up, but does anyone know where I can find a replacement part for it?
I am not totally sure on this, but I think that the brace only came on 2000 + exys. I do not think that it was avail on the older ones. Easy way to tell. Look in the floor. In the center (between the 2 tracks where the seat sits), there is plastic area there. There is also a clip that will rotate 90 degrees to the upright position. The top of the clip looks like a "C". When I say clip realize that it is much larger than a normal clip. It is actually to hold the bar that holds the seat up in place. Long story short, if there is something that looks somewhat like I have talked about above, then the truck should have the support. If not, then you do not.
I remember seeing an "aftermarket prop rod" @ performance products.com, as I recall they wanted $40-$50 for it. Even though I want one, I don't want it that bad.
Perhaps some one can chime in with a vendor link or something.
These after market rods are constructed so that the seat is secured in an upright folded postion, and make some space available at the lift gate without removing the seat.
I found something called a cargo strut on a site called premeirmotoring.net. Others I had looked at required drilling and other complex installation, but this one looked like it just went into place. I almost purchased one but read on another post here that one person just attached the seatbeltfrom the 3rd row seat to the second row seat. I have not tried this yet but am sure it will work for free! I plan to try and go between the seat back and bottom to avoid damaging the top of the second row seat.
There is a product called the Stowaway that once bolted in, allows you to prop and hold the third seat with a ring and pin type of device. When you want to drop the seat you just pull the ring and remove the pin and the seat drops down into place. The web site sells them for $79.95 which is waaay overpriced. Check Ebay. I found one for $19.95 brand new. One tip...don't overtighten the bolts when installing. It moves and operates much smoother if you don't. -Rob
I bought the cargo strut from xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.com for my 99 eddie bauer 4x4. Ford should make this standard, it really beats muscling that seat in and out. I highly recommend it!
