Another 6.0 oil filter question

I've ordered some new Racor filters from Diesel filters online but while I was at my shop this am I found 2 other oil filters; an NAPA premium gold and a Fram.

Now I believe the concensus is that the NAPA is crap but is the Fram OK to use? They don't look alike and the NAPA one is shorter...

Set me straight please...

Fram repackages a Racor filter, as was recently confirmed by a Fram rep here on FTE. Buying Fram doesn't interest me, but in a pinch it is good to know.

I'm not sure there is any reason to wait on his reply. He was researching something else, but he states plainly that their oil filter is made by Racor in this post:

Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums - View Single Post - Fram or Motocraft?

And we at FTE already knew it anyway, because we have inspected them before.

When I said I don't buy the Fram, it wasn't because I doubted this. It is just that I can get them cheaper online and I don't see the point in patronizing a company that is just repackaging a product.

Why not? I don't trust them. I believe they are repackaging Racor today. If they stop doing that tomorrow, I'm pretty sure they will not advise anyone of the fact.

Always check for the felt ring on the bottom of the filter. That is at the heart of the Racor patent.

Stick with Racor, the manufacturer of the Motorcraft filters.

I placed my last order with you, enjoyed the free shipping, and the service was fast. Completely satisifed.

I probably still have a dozen of the Fram CH-9549 filters left from when Pep Boys had their 2 for 7 buck sales. All are the correct dimensions, use the same material and have the same patent numbers. Some made in Germany, most in the USA. These are all Racor made and have given me zero problems. Even took two to the dealerships service manager for his comparision and reluctantly admitted that he had no problems with them.

There is a bit of of a problem with people stealing filters by substituting another one in the same box.

I raised this issue with Fram and suggested they need a more secure packaging for a filter that cost that much.

heck just stay with the Motorcraft filter. On a 6.0 it is imperative to stay with Motorcraft.

The last oil filter I got came from Fleet Filter and it was complete with the filter cap as well so I pitched my original OEM cap. Lo and behold, the Fleet Filter cap fits fine but is almost impossible to remove from the filter for reuse when it's time for an oil change. Lesson learned, save the OEM stuff to use at a later date just in case.

I don't know for sure as mine was replaced as part of my $2400 in repairs for the EGR valve/cooler/oil cooler repair.

If your filter comes with a different cap, it's very, very likely not an OEM racor filter.
